Christmas Pageant

Starts: December 4 @ 7:00 PM | Ends: December 4 @ 8:15 PM

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Monroe will present its first major theatrical production December 2-7, 2009 in the church Parish Hall. The book The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has been a favorite of young readers the world over since 1972 and the play has become a favorite holiday tradition. Funny, memorable, and outrageous, it is the story of a family of incorrigible children who get involved in the annual Christmas pageant and a reluctant couple who have to take charge of the pageant for the first time. The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world. They lie, steal, smoke cigars, swear, and hit little kids. They have never heard the Christmas story and when they do their interpretation of the tale - the Wise Men are a bunch of dirty spies and Herod needs a good beating - has the "church ladies" up in arms. Hilarity ensues as they all learn about why we celebrate Christmas and about giving to others. With all potential for a total disaster, how could this ever be the best Christmas pageant ever? The cast of thirty local actors is directed by Ginger Heath longtime Executive Director of the Union County Players. The cast includes students from Union, Unionville, Forest Hills High School, Marshville Elementary, Porter Ridge, East Union, Weddington Middle, plus home schooled students. The adult cast and crew includes a local business executive, several teachers, an engineer, a retiree, a doctor and even a judge. Now that's community theatre. "When the vestry approved the project we had no idea what to expect in terms of community interest but we were very fortunate to have a large turn out of talented people for this show," said Henry Jenkins, St. Paul's Senior Warden. "Our church is celebrating several exciting things this fall. We called a new rector who will arrive in November and we can now welcome him with this new outreach project. This just might be the best Christmas season ever." Make plans now to attend this one hour 15 minute production with your friends and family. It's a great way to start your holiday season.
